PaceBar

Notice when you're pushing too hard.

PaceBar is a quiet focus and work-pace monitor that lives in your Mac's menu bar. It learns your rhythm, shows a simple pace score, and nudges you when it's time to reset. Your data never leaves your Mac.

Built for quiet measurement.

Low-impact sensing

PaceBar reads the timing and frequency of interaction events to estimate load without recording what you type or see.

Steady modeling

Local modeling turns your working rhythm into a quiet readout you can check at a glance.

Adaptive baseline

PaceBar learns your working rhythm over time, adjusting the gauge to your normal pace instead of a generic threshold.

Small prompts, only when useful.

Use the headroom

When load is low and focus is stable, protect the next block for the work that matters.

Made for parallel work

AI tools make it easier to run several threads at once. PaceBar helps you see when that extra parallelism starts raising your pace.

Reset briefly

When the session gets heavy, PaceBar can nudge you to step away for a few minutes and return to one task.

Common questions.

Does PaceBar record what I type?
No. PaceBar reads only the timing of interaction events through standard, unprivileged macOS APIs. It never reads the contents and cannot see your keystrokes, messages, documents, or screen.
Does PaceBar need Accessibility or Screen Recording permission?
No. PaceBar works without any special permissions: no Accessibility access, no Screen Recording, no input monitoring prompts.
How does PaceBar estimate my pace?
It combines local signals such as interaction timing, app switching, focus streaks, and time of day into a simple pace score, then adapts its baseline to your normal rhythm. Quick check-ins let you tune the estimate. Everything is computed on your Mac.
Will it slow down my Mac or drain the battery?
PaceBar is designed to be low-impact. It reads a handful of system timing values every few seconds and never talks to the network.
What does PaceBar cost?
$7.99 as a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store. No subscription, no account. It requires macOS 15 or later.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Clear history in the app removes it at any time, and uninstalling the app deletes everything. Your data only ever lives on your Mac.

Private by construction.

Your interaction signals stay on your Mac. No accounts, no telemetry, no cloud processing.
